It has been a while since I’ve done a WIAW (What I Ate Wednesday). Typically these posts are what I ate Tuesday and just posted on Wednesday, but this is actually WIAW. Yesterday was an atypical work day for me. I had the morning to myself and then drove 60 miles to teach a research intervention. I teach the nutrition portion of a weight-loss intervention for teenagers with mental disabilities. It’s a fun change from my typical work and great experience! …
Between a weekend away, lots of meals/food/drinks, and a luncheon out, I was eager to get back to my basic eating; or at least find some balance in my eating again. I definitely feel out of sorts when I don’t eat as well as I typically do-a true testament to the power of nutrition!…
For today’s What I Ate Wednesday (WIAW), I thought I’d give you a bit more insight into my thought process behind how I choose what and when I eat. I have a mental checklist to make sure what I eat is balanced, satisfying, and nutritious. At this point, balanced meals/days are mostly completely second nature to me but even dietitians slip!
Days have been so crazy busy and sleep has been sacrificed (a bad idea which is why I’m going to bed at 8:00pm tonight…maybe). Yesterday is a good example of how lack of sleep affects your hunger. Read: it increases it. I tried to keep it in check but more snacks for sure! It’s okay, I don’t freak out about it. Appropriate food intake is a day-to-day average because your needs change. More one day, less the next. In theory that all balances out….
It has been awhile since I joined the What I Ate Wednesday blogosphere party. AKA “what I ate Tuesday posted on Wednesday”. My days have recently gotten busier with me bouncing between one of five locations for work. It has meant an increased need for satiating, convenient, and fast meals. Plus an increased dependence on my planner, which is surprisingly heavy when you carry it around 24/7. My right shoulder is noticeably sore…I should probably switch arms every now and then.
Anyways, I wish this schedule change meant a huge difference in what I eat, for interest sake, but not too much has changed. I was seeking out satiating and convenient meals anyways, because who wants complicated, unsatisfying food?…
A day of some new eats and all (actually all) pictures accounted for. Success of the week. Get ready for another What I Ate Wednesday plus a little education about new-to-me and maybe-new-to-you foods to try. I love reading other WIAW posts in the blog world because they provide some great inspiration. Granted, I obviously like my go-to breakfast, lunch and snack options, but still, inspiration achieved and new notions brewing….
Is it already Wednesday again? This summer is flying by WAY too fast. That means it is time for another What I Ate Wednesday/Really on Tuesday and Posted Wednesday. Yesterday was a great day with great people, good food and excellent weather. I love having a flexible work schedule that allows me to enjoy some full days out and about in my favorite city 🙂
Breakfast 7:30 am
Remember last week when I was so excited that I actually remembered to take pictures of all my food (mostly)? Well yea, first meal and I totally forgot! Luckily, I eat basically the same 2 meals for breakfast so I’m using last week’s picture. 2% Plain Greek yogurt with blueberries, flaxseed and cinnamon for me again, with my Ezekial toast and sunflower seed butter. It’s so good and the balance of protein, fat and fiber-rich carbohydrates keeps me going. No need to switch this up too often! However, I should use these WIAW posts as motivation to branch out with some of my meals so we’ll see what I can come up with.
Snack 11:00 am
Still munching on some peaches my mom brought back from the farm. They’ve been in the fridge so they have lasted fairly well. This was a bit wrinkly but still juicy and delicious.
Lunch 12:15 pm
After complaining last WIAW about my salad rut, I’ve reinvented my lunch! I still wanted to make lunch veggie heavy so I’ve basically been stuffing a scaled-down salad into a wrap. Today, I had my sprouted grain wrap with hummus, tabbouleh, spinach, sliced cucumber and sliced egg. What a fantastic combination. I still have yet to master the “roll and stay rolled” wrap technique but doesn’t mean it’s any less delicious. I had a side of carrots and habanero salsa. I needed an orange veggie at this lunch too and a kick of spice is always good. I followed this up with, what else, but a handful of blueberries. It is a small miracle I haven’t become that blueberry girl from Willy Wonka…I eat that many blueberries every day.
I couldn’t resist having a 1/2 of a blueberry muffin that I made (recipe coming Friday). While walking down Newbury Street, I also got a mini Pinkberry topped with fruit and a few mochi, sticky rice dough balls. I have mixed feelings about mochi, but decided to add some just to mix it up. The mini 3 oz size isn’t always advertised at Pinkberry but it’s there. Portion control is key, even with a seemingly healthy treat. I had to have an apple around 6:00 to hold me over until dinner. I didn’t want to get hangry.
Dinner 7:00 pm
I went out to dinner with some of my favorite people last night. We went to Kashmir, an Indian restaurant on Newbury street. Indian is without a doubt my favorite cuisine! I would happily eat it every day. The spices, incredibly flavorful food and copious vegetarian options makes it a huge win in my book. I like getting roti instead of traditional basmati rice or naan, because it is a bread made with whole wheat flour. The fritters were a delicious fried treat 🙂
I ended the night with a cup of hot herbal tea.
Here’s hoping I remember to actually take pictures of everything for next Wednesday. Have a good day!
First of all, a big thank you to everyone who checked out Decidedly Nutritious since my official launch on Monday! Despite technically existing for 2 months prior to Monday, I was working on creating content, designing and figuring out the blogging/techie world. Phew, is that a huge learning curve! An extra special thank you to all the incredible people in my life who helped me out along the way!
Anyways, it is Wednesday and that means its time for WIAW! (What I Ate Wednesday for all of you not following foodies on Twitter). It is a little confusing because WIAW should really be WIATPOW (What I Ate Tuesday Posted on Wednesday) but regardless, I remembered to take pictures of all my food two Tuesdays in a row so I can post for WIAW!
Apparently, even though I swear I take pictures of everything I eat (people around me can attest to this), I’m not great at remembering to take pictures of everything I eat on Tuesdays. So I missed a few WIAW posts but I’m back! I’ve been all over the place and very busy the past few weeks, so I’m glad yesterday was a “work from home and take care of errands” day.
Wacky Boston weather extremes means that it is hot and humid. Since I am not blessed with central AC in my apartment (that I love in every other way), I opted for cold/very minimally cooked foods.
Its Wednesday, which means it is time for WIAW or What I Ate Wednesday! WIAW has been making the rounds in the blog world for a while now. Since I finally have a blog, I can join in the fun. I’ll preface this by saying how I eat works for me and likely will not work for you! We’re all different so please don’t try to eat exactly as I do. I’m happy to have the WIAW serve as inspiration for your meals and snacks but remember to listen to your body’s needs and hunger cues. …
